So my name's actually Andrew Huang; I'm not a reclusive, red-headed, umbrella-toting, sword-wielding youth wandering the lands of Japan in search of my memories and a demon.... Right.
I'm a Taiwanese-American lad, born and raised in the States (save for three years in what was West Germany). Burned my way through high school, struggled a bit through college, worked as a techie for two years, and just finished a Japan-focused MBA program at the University of Hawaii, including a three-month internship in Japan. I had hoped to enter the video game industry in Japan, but as it turned out, I had a much better chance with the anime industry back in the United States--so I was employed by Geneon Entertainment (US) in Long Beach, Cali for 3.5 years, first as a Business Development Administrator, now Sales Planning and Forecasting Analyst.
Sadly, the anime market in the US was starting a downturn just as I joined, and for me it culminated in the effective shutdown of Geneon as a licensor, localizer, producer and distributor of anime in the US. I was laid off in September of 07, and while the company continued to finish off a last few set of licenses, it is done as a company (aside from being a holder of rights and properties). Fortunately, I managed to get a new job relatively quickly--in December of 07, I was hired by Epson America Inc. (the printer and projector company) as a Sales Planning Analyst. Same sort of job, different product, and to my relief, a profitable company. I will always miss being with Geneon, though....
That's me in real life, generally. Ah, yes, I'm also a Christian, and that may be reflected in some of my entries.
My interests include anime and manga, Japan and its culture, music (I played piano for 12 years, and I also sang in my college's Christian a cappella group), computer stuff, video games of various sorts (from RPGs to flight sims to fighting games--naturally), novels by Terry Pratchett.... Oh, and I can dance. Really. Apparently I have the rare Asian Mack Dance genes, or something like that.
My first real online presence came about because, of all things, I wrote some anime fanfiction of slight note, Neon Genesis Evanjellydonut. Kinda got into the online community as a result, joined up on MUCKs, chatting on them, RPing on them, and finally even administrating on a couple of them. Admittedly, I don't write very much nowadays, but I swear, I haven't stopped. Really.
What's with Shizumaru, then, you may ask? Well, the first fighting games I really ever got into were Samurai Shodown 3 and 4, and Shizu was the first one I ever really used. Got pretty good with him, too. Kinda started noticing his odd personality (apologizing for beating the crap out of his opponent), and decided I kinda liked him. Oh, I also became fond of Rimururu, and matching those two up has become another rabid interest of mine. But that's another story. Anyway, I've taken him as a character on a number of mucks, and kind of adopted him as a bit of a persona, at times. So there you go.
Why a Livejournal? Back in middle and high schools, I used to keep a journal on my computer. For some reason, I just stopped once I entered college...just too distracted, I guess. And then I heard about these things, thought they were interesting...but was still too distracted. Now, though, a bunch of my friends do this sort of thing, and I figured, why not? My chance to yell at the world, and the world can yell back.
For those of you random folks who are curious about me, for some odd reason, almost all of my entries are public, save for those that contain things like personal contact info. So feel free to read and comment as you like. I do allow anonymous posts, but do have logging on.
